Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics

Initial Visit

Is there a charge for the initial visit?

No. Your first orthodontic consultation is completely complimentary. As a courtesy to you and your general dentist, we provide a free evaluation. If diagnostic records such as X-rays are required, there may be a minimal co-pay.

Why do you see young patients for early braces for kids evaluations?

Early checkups allow us to monitor growth, provide education, and identify potential orthodontic concerns before they become more complex. Treatment is not always started right away, but these visits help us plan the best timing if care is needed later.

How long does the first appointment take, and is an orthodontist consultation included?

Most first visits last 30 to 60 minutes. During this time, we may complete a basic exam and take images if necessary. You will also meet with Drs. Piyush and Kiran Heda for a full consultation to review findings and discuss treatment options.

Can I transfer if I’m already in treatment elsewhere?

Yes. We welcome transfer patients. You’ll receive a thorough evaluation, and we will design a treatment plan tailored to your needs. We do not require a large upfront fee and provide flexible monthly payment options.

Should I see an orthodontist or a dentist for teeth alignment?

Orthodontists have advanced training specifically in tooth movement and bite correction. If you are considering metal braces, ceramic braces, or clear aligners, an orthodontist is the best professional to oversee your care.

Can I schedule all my appointments after school or late in the afternoon?

We make every effort to accommodate school and work schedules. Shorter visits are often available in the early morning or late afternoon, while longer procedures may be scheduled earlier in the day.

Do you handle orthodontic emergencies?

Yes. If you experience an orthodontic emergency, call us immediately. We also provide instructions by phone and online to help you manage the situation until we can see you.

Financial & Insurance

How do you work with insurance when calculating the cost of clear aligners or the cost of braces?

Once your benefits are verified, we will file claims directly on your behalf. If your coverage changes during treatment, you will still be responsible for the agreed payment arrangement.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes. We accept most major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

Can I set up automatic payments with direct debit?

Yes. We offer auto-draft from your bank account or credit card for simple, stress-free payments.

Is interest charged on orthodontic payment plans?

No. Our payment plans are interest-free, helping make braces and aligners more accessible.

Do you provide family orthodontist discounts?

Yes. We offer family discounts when multiple members begin orthodontic treatment with us.

Types of Orthodontic Treatment

What is Phase 1 Treatment, and how does it support early pediatric orthodontist care?

Phase 1 treatment begins while a child still has both primary and permanent teeth. It addresses early issues like crowding, jaw growth, or crossbites, often preventing more complex treatment later.

What is Phase 2 Treatment, and how is it different from braces vs clear aligners for teens?

Phase 2 treatment usually starts once all permanent teeth are in place and lasts 18–24 months. It uses full braces or clear aligners to fine-tune the bite and achieve a straight smile.

Tooth Movement & Mechanics

If I need antibiotics for dental procedures, should I take them for orthodontic visits?

Some patients may need pre-medication before certain orthodontic procedures. Please check with your physician or our doctors before your visit.

How do braces and other teeth straightening options move teeth into place?

Braces and aligners work by applying gentle, consistent pressure that gradually guides teeth into proper alignment. Our doctors carefully plans each step to ensure safe, predictable movement.

Do you reuse or recycle orthodontic braces?

No. Every appliance is brand-new to guarantee quality, safety, and hygiene.

Wisdom Teeth (Third Molars)

Can wisdom teeth make your teeth crooked after treatment?

Research shows wisdom teeth are not usually the main cause of crowding after treatment. Other factors are more commonly responsible for shifting.

Why might wisdom teeth be removed before or after jaw alignment treatment?

Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to gum issues, infections, or discomfort. Removal may be recommended even if they do not directly cause crowding.

When is the best time to remove wisdom teeth?

Most oral surgeons suggest extraction when the roots are about two-thirds developed, usually between the ages of 16 and 18.

TMJ & Jaw Concerns

Can braces help treat TMJ, or can they cause TMJ symptoms?

Braces do not directly treat or cause TMJ disorders. These conditions can develop separately and are usually managed with specific therapies.

Health Considerations

What are the overall health benefits of wearing clear braces for adults or teens?

Orthodontic treatment improves more than just appearance. Straight teeth support better chewing, easier cleaning, balanced facial structure, and long-term oral health.

Can allergies or enlarged adenoids affect orthodontic treatment with braces?

Yes. Breathing issues related to allergies or enlarged adenoids can influence jaw growth and may contribute to crowding or misalignment.

How does tongue thrust or low tongue posture impact treatment with braces?

Improper tongue posture places extra pressure on teeth, which can cause spaces or protrusion. Correcting tongue habits is essential for lasting orthodontic success.
